Male arrested after Police Officer is struck by a vehicle in Uxbridge.

A man in his 40s has been arrested on suspicion of GBH after an officer, responding to reports of a burglary was struck by a vehicle.

The officer suffered a broken ankle and was taken to a hospital in London where treatment is ongoing.

In a statement the police said:

"A man has been arrested after an officer was injured in Uxbridge.

Police were called at 21:45hrs on Wednesday, 29 July to Park Road. It had been reported that suspects were breaking into a house.

A local officer, who was in plain clothes, attended and while at the scene was struck by a car.

The male officer, aged in his mid-20s, suffered a broken ankle. He was taken to a central London hospital where he is currently being treated.

The driver of the car, a passing member of the public - aged in his mid-40s - was arrested at the scene on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm. He currently remains in custody.

At this early stage of the investigation, it is not believed the suspected assault was because the injured party was an officer.

Enquiries continue."

The Incident in which the officer involved was injured took place just days after the High profile ruling by the courts in the Pc Andrew harper case.

On 15 August 2019, 28-year-old police constable Andrew Harper was killed near Sulhamstead, Berkshire, England whilst on duty. Harper and a fellow officer were responding to a report of burglary, after which Harper was dragged behind a car causing his death.

A recent rise in number of cases in the UK where officers have been injured by vehicles on duty leaves the question a is enough being done to protect those who protect us?
