Detectives have launched an urgent investigation following a serious sexual assault in West Drayton on Saturday evening, prompting an increased police presence across the area over the coming days.

Emergency services were called to The Green at 20:22hrs on Saturday, July 18, following reports of the attack. Officers attended the scene alongside paramedics from the London Ambulance Service. A woman in her 20s was taken to hospital for treatment and has since been discharged. She is currently receiving specialized care from trained officers.

Police and detectives used dogs to search the area for evidence

A police cordon was established across sections of The Green shortly after officers arrived, restricting public access while forensic teams and detectives conducted initial enquiries. At this early stage of the investigation, no arrests have been made, and officers are appealing to members of the public who may have witnessed suspicious activity in the area to come forward.

Detective Sergeant Ranjit Sekhon, who is leading the investigation for the Metropolitan Police, confirmed that officers are working at pace to identify and locate those responsible. He explained that detectives are currently speaking to witnesses and reviewing available evidence, including local CCTV footage. He added that the local community can expect to see an increased police presence in the area over the next few days, encouraging anyone with concerns or information to approach officers on patrol.

The establishment of the police cordon coincided with a scheduled children’s event taking place at the neighbouring Southlands Arts Centre, located directly adjacent to The Green. Police have clarified that the two incidents are entirely unlinked, with the police response focused purely on the locus on The Green itself.

Despite the sudden blue-light response and the emergence of police tape nearby, organizers and families at the arts centre ensured the children’s event went ahead safely and successfully, providing a warm, creative sanctuary for local young people amid the surrounding disruption.

The resilience shown by the venue comes at a crucial time for the historic community hub, which continues to face significant operational challenges. Like many grassroots cultural venues across the borough, the centre has been battling financial pressures while simultaneously contending with a recent spate of anti-social behaviour targeting its grounds. In one recent incident, a window at the historic site was shattered after a paving slab was thrown through the glass by an elderly local resident.
