Throwback to when Uxbridge FC shocked Hayes & Yeading in the FA Trophy 🏆
Let’s rewind to 2020, when a dramatic late goal saw Uxbridge FC stun local rivals and favourites Hayes & Yeading United with a 2–1 win in the Buildbase FA Trophy Third Qualifying Round.
It was a fiery clash full of local pride. Uxbridge got off to a dream start, with Lonit Talla netting an early goal in just the 12th minute. But Hayes & Yeading responded like seasoned pros – Francis Amartey pulled them level six minutes before half-time, setting up a tense second half.
With the score locked at 1–1 and time ticking away, it looked like penalties were on the horizon. But in the 88th minute, substitute Callum Bunting became the hero of the hour, grabbing a decisive goal that sent Uxbridge through to the first round proper, where they would face Cray Wanderers.
What made this local derby even better? The sportsmanship. Hayes & Yeading United wished Uxbridge the best of luck in the next round, and Uxbridge returned the gesture — even giving Hayes & Yeading a shoutout ahead of their FA Cup first round clash with Carlisle United.
For context, the Buildbase FA Trophy is a national competition for clubs in Steps 1–4 of the National League System, primarily made up of semi-professional teams. Moments like this one show just how much heart and drama the lower leagues have to offer.
