Six young martial artists from Hillingdon are set to compete for Team GB at the World Martial Arts Games in Norway, leaving on Thursday, 6th November.

The athletes, aged 7 to 15, train at the Simac Mind, Body and Soul MMA centre at Harlington School. They have impressed both locally and nationally, winning medals at the London Open Martial Arts Tournament in July 2024 — a key qualifier for Team GB selection.

Following this success, the group underwent a rigorous selection process in Norwich, competing against hundreds of athletes from across the country. Their dedication and performance earned them a place on the national team.

The young champions have also competed in other London tournaments and recently qualified for future selections to represent Great Britain in Germany next year.

Reflecting their commitment both on and off the mats, all six athletes volunteer weekly at their club, helping younger children learn techniques and build confidence. Parent Danny Ward praised their discipline and leadership:

“These boys not only train four to five days a week but also give up their time to help teach younger members. They inspire others to stay away from crime and to see what young people can achieve,” he said.

The athletes were celebrated by the Mayor of Hillingdon and have received public recognition from Uxbridge and South Ruislip MP Danny Beales, who described them as “wonderful talent” and shared their GoFundMe link to support the trip.

Mr Ward added: “As a parent of Max, I am incredibly proud of the young man he has become, and equally proud of the other five. They train hard, five days a week, three hours on Saturdays, and do it all with a smile. Their drive, determination and dedication is remarkable.”
